Short answer
When salary information is requested, make the basis explicit: currency, gross amount, period and workload. A range can express your negotiating position, but must reflect your own expectations. Example amounts are not market or salary recommendations.
A worked example
Fictional wording for a full-time role; the amount is illustrative, not market evidence.
Before
My expectation is 60,000.
After
My salary expectation is EUR 60,000 gross per year for full-time work. I would be happy to discuss the details in relation to the responsibilities and overall package.
Answer the employer’s question
Check whether the vacancy asks for annual salary, monthly salary or hourly pay. Use the requested unit. Omitting the unit creates avoidable ambiguity. For part-time work, make clear which workload the amount refers to.
Distinguish countries and currencies
Write CHF or EUR explicitly. Do not transfer a number between countries without research. A sound expectation needs current data for the role, region, experience and workload. This page explains wording and does not provide that valuation.
Place the statement appropriately
Use a separate form field when the employer provides one. A requested statement can appear near the end of a cover letter. Keep the same basis for a later conversation. Avoid inconsistent amounts or units between the letter and form.
